The Australian Coastal Society invites you to the 16th National Coast to Coast Conference held jointly with the 8th Queensland Coastal Conference.  The Conference will be held from 4 – 6 June 2025 at Mantra on View Surfers Paradise, QLD

Welcome from the organising committee

On behalf of the organising committee, we extend an invitation to the joint National Coast to Coast and 8th Queensland Coastal Conference.

Queensland’s coastline is a remarkable asset, renowned for its natural beauty and diverse ecosystems. However, it also faces significant challenges, including coastal hazards, competing demand for environmental, recreational, community and commercial uses compounded by the looming impacts of climate change. This conference provides an opportunity for coastal managers from across the country and region to gather and discuss these issues, share knowledge, and explore innovative solutions.

We hope the conference will delve into a wide range of topics, from coastal ecology and geomorphology, engineering and science, to policy and governance. We will hear from leading researchers, practitioners, and policymakers who are at the forefront of coastal management. We will engage in thought-provoking discussions and debates, and we will foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders.

We encourage you to attend and actively participate in this conference, ask questions, share your insights, and build relationships with your peers. Together, we can work towards a sustainable future to support our coastal lifestyle.

Joint National Coast to Coast Conference and QLD Coastal Conference

Coast to Coast is Australian Coastal Society’s national coastal management conference, focussed on embracing the coastal lifestyle enjoyed by Australians and supporting this into the future. The Conference provides an opportunity for all ACS members and non members, industry, researchers, governments and all stakeholders to share knowledge and experiences in coastal and marine science, policy, governance and on-ground planning and management initiatives.

The conference will bring together over 250 delegates from a range of fields including science, engineering, planning, government, community, academia, fisheries, First Nations, innovation and technology.

Embracing our Coastal Lifestyle: Connecting our experiences with the future. This year’s conference theme acknowledges the importance of the coastal lifestyle to communities emphasising the need to learn from our past experience and learnings while incorporate emerging knowledge to support future resilient coastal communities.

Australian Coastal Society (ACS)

The ACS believes that a healthy and sustainable coastal environment is important for the majority of Australians. In order to achieve this, the ACS attempts to foster coastal stewardship by creating a well-informed independent voice for advice on coastal matters to governments and coastal managers.

The Australian Coastal Society (ACS) was initiated at the Coast to Coast Conference in Tasmania in 2004. The idea was floated as a means for those interested in coastal matters to communicate between conferences and where possible take resolutions of the conference to appropriate levels of government.

The idea was discussed further at the Coast to Coast Conference in Melbourne in 2006 and it was agreed that Bruce Thom develop a constitution of a company limited by guarantee that would operate on a national basis.
